PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Corporate Digital & Applications (CDA) builds the BBC’s internal tools. You’ll design smart user journeys and create reusable UI components that combine great UX with developer efficiency. You’ll be crafting quality components that users love and engineers trust, empowering the team to ship faster and smarter.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Build the tools that power the BBC. The CDA team is a friendly, flexible, start‑up‑style group building the internal products that keep the BBC running. These include custom-built web apps to manage procurement, scheduling of staff, internal events, finance, and HR functions such as people management or career development.

We’re currently working on enhancing our bespoke design system to optimise the development of new apps. Our existing design system is mature, but with room for improvement and flexibility for a creative eye and user-focused mindset to put their own stamp on it. You’ll help evolve our design system, influence how products feel and function, and leave a visible mark on everything we build.

You won’t just be shipping features; you’ll be shaping tools used every day across one of the world’s most iconic organisations. Working in CDA you can expect real ownership, impact, and growth.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Designing and building attractive, accessible, and reusable UI components
• Shaping user journeys that turn complex workflows into simple experiences
• Contributing to our design system and front-end user experience
• Collaborating closely with product managers and engineers
• Writing high-quality, maintainable code with testing and performance in mind
• Participating in pair programming, code reviews, and agile delivery
• Continuously learning and applying modern front-end practices

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Proven ability to design & build user interfaces and components that end-users love, and developers enjoy working with (share your portfolio/GitHub link with us)
• Excellent front-end skills (HTML, CSS and JavaScript - ideally React)
• Experience working with design systems (and their tooling, such as Storybook)
• A deep understanding of UI/UX principles and web accessibility standards
• A genuine commitment to your own growth and professional development and a willingness to share knowledge and help others
• Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• Experience integrating with APIs (e.g. GraphQL)

Ready to make an impact?

If you’re excited about crafting high-quality user experiences, solving real-world problems, and growing your career in a fast-moving, supportive team then we’d love to hear from you.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d encourage you to apply.
