PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,200 to £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

At BBC Radio Oxford we're launching a new flagship breakfast programme this summer and we need a highly creative, ambitious and experienced producer to help develop and deliver it. You’ll have the drive and production flair to make the show famous for the quality of its content and its deep connection to listeners, and you’ll love working with on-air talent to make them the best they can possibly be.

This is an excellent opportunity to not only be lead producer on our weekday breakfast programme, but to also be part of the editorial leadership team on the radio station.
You’ll be able to use your passion for audio craft, while leading the team to develop creative ways of telling complex stories which make sense to our local audience. You will be core to harnessing motivation in the team, generating a positive, creative environment.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • You will be the lead producer on our weekday breakfast programme and set the agenda for the day, entertaining those who choose us as the soundtrack to their morning.
  • You will be firmly focused on the needs of audience, addressing their changing habits and providing useful and relevant content which helps them live their lives.
  • Editorially, you will focus on quality stories over quantity and you will be responsible for ensuring our high editorial standards are adhered to across all content.
  • Your production flair and ability to get the best out of the team will help make the show famous and establish it as a market leader in Oxfordshire, while your journalistic instinct and knowledge will help you make difficult editorial decisions.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Considerable experience leading production in a live radio broadcast environment.
  • Extensive experience working with presenters along with the ability to demonstrate that you’re comfortable giving feedback and managing performance.
  • A proven ability to judge audience need and react to breaking news, and a journalistic ability to turn complex stories into clear impactful treatments which resonate with the Local Radio audience.
  • A thorough knowledge of the BBC’s editorial guidelines and broadcast law.
  • Exceptional audio craft skills.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • A good working knowledge of Oxfordshire.
  • An understanding of why diversity matters alongside an ability to generate content which highlights the true breadth of human experience in our patch.
